Tournevia

Glossary

The planning terms used in Tournevia and in this manual.

Address lookup

Finding a point from an address while typing or on import, with the Base Adresse Nationale. It uses the installation’s own geocoder when the operator has installed one, and addresses do not leave the installation; otherwise an administrator can turn on IGN’s address service, which then receives the looked-up addresses and the depot’s position. It proposes a point at a house number, a street, a locality or a town — never the vehicle entrance itself — so every proposal still needs review.

Blocking issue

A rule broken by a result, found by the independent validation of capacities, windows, equipment and roads. A plan with blocking issues cannot be marked Ready or exported.

Company workspace

The workspace of your operation, created during first-use setup. It holds your vehicles, deliveries, customers, depots and places, and possibly examples marked Example.

Customer

A recipient saved once in Customers, with a code, a name, an address, a reviewed vehicle entrance and, where needed, usual hours, a service duration, equipment and instructions. Chosen on a delivery, it fills in those values; a delivery at exactly its reviewed entrance needs no new review.

Delivery numbers

The format an administrator chooses for new delivery identifiers, for example LIV-2026-0001: text, an optional date part taken from the delivery date, and a number. The next number follows the highest existing identifier in this format; it is final when the delivery is saved. Existing identifiers never change.

Depot and main depot

A depot is somewhere goods are loaded: vehicles can start there, and a delivery can ship from it (Ships from), in which case only vehicles starting there carry it. The main depot is where vehicles start and end unless another choice is made; it cannot be deleted. See also Place.

Draft

The state of a result after a successful calculation or a manual edit. A draft can be inspected and changed; it is not approved. Editing a Ready plan returns it to Draft.

Entrance review

Your confirmation that a saved point is the entrance the vehicle uses. Every depot and place the selected vehicles use, and every selected delivery, need a reviewed point before a calculation. Moving the pin resets the review; an imported point arrives unreviewed, unless it takes a customer’s reviewed entrance or is the same point already reviewed.

Equipment code

A short code in capital letters, such as TAIL_LIFT, describing equipment. A vehicle can serve a delivery only if it has every code the delivery requires. Records, files, the API and the CSV export keep the codes. The screens and route sheets name TAIL_LIFT Tail lift and REFRIGERATED Refrigerated body, chosen with tick boxes; any other code shows as written and is edited under Other equipment codes.

Example

A fictional depot, vehicle or delivery added to try planning, marked Example in the lists. Examples are planned only with other examples. A plan of examples is calculated on the road network and can be marked Ready, but its route sheets and CSV say “Example data, not for driving.”: it is not a route to drive. An administrator removes them all in Settings → Example data.

Margin

How much later the truck could arrive at a stop and still start within its window, on the plan’s estimated travel times without live traffic. Each stop shows it in the Margin column; a margin of 10 min or less is marked with a clock. The plan’s figures show the day’s Smallest margin and its stop. See also Safety margin.

Matrix

The road travel times and distances between the depots and places where the selected vehicles start and end and every selected entrance, calculated for each truck profile before the assignment is searched. The screen shows this stage as Calculating road travel times.

Objective

What the calculation minimizes: Travel time (driving, after service priorities) or Modeled travel cost (fixed, distance and driving-time rates). Tolls are not included in either.

Partial plan

A valid plan that leaves some selected deliveries unassigned. It can be marked Ready only after you tick I accept the unassigned deliveries in this partial plan; accepting them does not make them deliverable.

Payload and gross routing weight

The payload is the load a vehicle carries; it limits the deliveries it can take. The gross routing weight is the vehicle’s total weight used for road restrictions. The payload cannot exceed the gross routing weight.

Place

Somewhere a vehicle can start or end its day without loading goods, such as a driver’s home. A vehicle starting there leaves already loaded; no delivery ships from a place. Like a depot, its entrance must be reviewed before a calculation that uses it.

Ready

The approved state of a plan, set with Mark ready after review. Only the current Ready plan can be exported or printed as route sheets, and only one Ready plan per day may dispatch a given vehicle or delivery.

Route sheet

One printable page per vehicle of a Ready plan: where and when it leaves and ends, its distance, driving time and load, then each delivery in order with its time, number, customer, address, instructions, equipment, window and load. Each stop opens in Google Maps or Waze at the reviewed entrance; those apps choose their own path, which may not suit the truck. Route sheets follow the same conditions as the CSV export.

Routing service and road graph

The routing service calculates road routes, travel times and distances on a road graph built from OpenStreetMap data for the covered area. When it is unavailable, calculations and road-access checks fail.

Safety margin

The time new calculations keep before each window ends, set by an administrator in Settings › Calculation (15 min by default, 0 to 120): each delivery is planned to start at least that long before its window ends, never before it opens. When the roads allow no such time, the stop is planned later in its window; validation checks the real windows. Each plan keeps the margin it was calculated with.

Service window

When a delivery can be served: an earliest and a latest time on its service date. The service duration, up to 8 hours, is the time spent at the stop.

Solver budget

Under Advanced calculation settings, the time in seconds (1 to 60, 5 by default) given to the search for an assignment. The whole calculation also has a time limit set by the operator.

Stale result

Routes, times and geometry that no longer match the plan, for example while a recalculation is pending or after it failed. Ready and export are disabled until a current result exists.

Start and end

Where a vehicle starts and ends its day: Starts at (the main depot unless chosen otherwise) and Ends at (where it started unless chosen otherwise). The vehicle leaves loaded from where it starts.

Unassigned

A selected delivery that is in no route. The plan shows the reason; you can also move a stop to Unassigned yourself.

Waiting

Time a truck spends at a stop before its window opens. It shows under the stop’s start time, as a total beside the route’s distance, and hollow on the route’s day strip.

Weekly hours and days off

When a vehicle works: a start and end time for each weekday, in Europe/Paris local time, and dated days off or other hours that replace them on that date. Overnight work is not supported. A calculation uses the vehicle’s hours on its own day.

Worker

The process that runs calculations one after another, separately from the screens you use. When it is stopped, new calculations wait in the queue and Calculation service needs attention is shown.
